BUILDING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

SECTION SIX

Resurrection

LESSON FOURTEEN: Spiritual Resurrection

Scripture reading: Colossians 2:20 - 3:17

In previous studies we learned that the New Testament refers to three resurrections which are vital to our faith. They are the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ in the past, the spiritual resurrection of all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ in the present, and the ultimate resurrection of "all who are in the graves" which is future. We shall consider now the second or the spiritual resurrection of the believer.

I. CHRISTIANS ARE NOW RISEN.

The resurrection of Christ has a practical effect in our daily lives. In the present, the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, quickens us with spiritual life and vitality.

A. Who has God quickened or made alive?

Eph 2:1, 5, 6 (cf also Eph 1:20)________________________

B. Who will live with Christ?

Rom. 6:8 ________________________________________

"Now if we BE DEAD (have died) with Christ, we believe that we shall also LIVE with Him."

C. Who has God quickened together with Christ?

Col. 2:13 ____________________________________

D. We are to be dead to _______________ and alive unto _______________

because _______________ lives in us. Gal. 2:19-20

E. How can we recognize a risen Christian? II Cor. 5:14-18 ____________

II. SPIRITUAL RESURRECTION SIGNIFIED

A. What is the outward physical act which signifies what has taken place inwardly?

Rom 6:4, 5 __________________________________________

B. Why does water baptism identify us with Christ?

Col 2:12 __________________________________________

III. SOME OBSERVABLE EVIDENCES INDICATING THAT THIS SPIRITUAL RESURRECTION HAS TAKEN PLACE IN THE BELIEVER

A. We are to reckon ourselves __________________unto sin and _____________unto God.

Rom 6:11

There will not only be the "faith act" initially, but also the "faith attitude" established and maintained in daily living. That faith attitude relates to the fact that the believer reckons himself to be dead unto sin (the old life) and alive unto God (the new life).

B. How are believers to walk? Rom 6:4 __________________________

C. We are to live unto ________________________

II Cor 5:15 ________________________________

A new Master will be obeyed.

D. We are to seek _________________________. Our affections are to be set on ________

____________ not on __________________ Col 3:1, 2. A new purpose in life and for life will be established, embraced and exhibited.
